Guardian: "A furious row has broken out over claims in a new book by BBC broadcaster James Naughtie that US Secretary of State Colin Powell described neo-conservatives in the Bush administration as 'fucking crazies' during the build-up to war in Iraq.
The 'crazies' are said to be Vice-President Dick Cheney, Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and his deputy, Paul Wolfowitz."

It seems Barnes & Noble are pushing the Republican cause. Anyway, they are too expensive. The same book, say, Paul Auster's 'Oracle Night', will cost you $18.40 at B&N and only $9.20 at Amazon.

New Scientist: "Right-wing governments may sap some people's will to live and result in more suicides, conclude studies in Britain and Australia.
The researchers speculate that losers are more likely to kill themselves in the individualistic, 'winner-takes-all' societies favoured by right wing governments, because they are left to fend for themselves. Wide disparities in wealth also sharpen any sense of hopelessness, the researchers argue."
Scotsman: "Poverty depresses people. The poverty trap can be sprung by employment being available as and when and, if possible, where recovering alcoholics, drug abusers and people battling depression can attempt to break the vicious circle of addiction. People unable to take up work for whatever reason need support that can only be paid for by all of us."

BBC: "A campaign to use age-old powers to impeach Tony Blair for misleading the public over the Iraq war is being launched by a group of MPs on Thursday."
Blair is charged with:
- Misleading Parliament and the country over Iraq
- Negligence and incompetence over weapons of mass destruction
- Undermining the constitution
- Entering into a secret agreement with the US president.
Even if the impeachment has little chance, this campaign makes sense, if only to prove that democracy no longer works and the system of checks and balances has been corrupted.
