Blair: "The problem is I can apologize for the information that turned out to be wrong but I can't, sincerely at least, apologize for removing Saddam," he said. "The world is a better place with Saddam in prison not in power."
Blair is a blithering cunning fox. By reducing the Iraq war to 'removing Saddam' he has swept aside the thousands of civilian victims and the total destruction of a country. Why are his troops still in Iraq then, if it only was a matter of removing Saddam? He still has to apologize for the murder of thousands of people. He is a war criminal. And the world is a much worse place now.

International Herald Tribune: "In jails and prisons across the United States, thousands of people are detained who have never been accused of crimes. The guards treat them like criminals, and the criminals they bunk with often abuse them. They are held for months, sometimes even years, but unlike the criminals, they do not know when their sentences will end. They receive this treatment because they are foreigners who arrived in the United States saying that they were fleeing persecution at home."

SanLuisObispo: "In the name of homeland security, America's spy imagery agency is keeping a close eye, close to home. It's watching America. Since the Sept. 11 attacks, about 100 employees of a little-known branch of the Defense Department called the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency - and some of the country's most sophisticated aerial imaging equipment - have focused on observing what's going on in the United States.
Their work brushes up against the fine line between protecting the public and performing illegal government spying on Americans."

ConceptualGuerilla: "When you cut right through it, right-wing ideology is just 'dime-store economics - intended to dress their ideology up and make it look respectable. You don't really need to know much about economics to understand it. They certainly don't. It all gets down to two simple words.
'Cheap labor'. That's their whole philosophy in a nutshell - which gives you a short and pithy 'catch phrase' that describes them perfectly. You've heard of 'big-government liberals'. Well they're 'cheap-labor conservatives'."
Great article. A must read.

Guardian: "Links have been discovered between senior American military officials and the failed coup plot in Equatorial Guinea that has left Sir Mark Thatcher facing trial in South Africa.
Both the US and Britain have extensive oil interests in Equatorial Guinea which, in the words of one US official, is 'the new Kuwait'."
