JSOnline: "The House and Senate overwhelmingly voted Thursday night to extend three tax cuts aimed at the middle class, along with a bevy of business tax breaks, sending President Bush a $146 billion tax cut that will be his fourth in four years.
Democrats did have their complaints. They unsuccessfully tried to make changes to the child credit that would have prevented some poor families from losing some or all of their child tax payments as inflation eats away at their eligibility. And they fumed that Republicans extended most of the tax cuts for five years but chose to extend for two years a provision benefiting soldiers in the combat zones of Iraq and Afghanistan."
See also DailyKos and Salon: "The image of Washington politicians (Republican leadership in this case) 'beating back' attempts to keep tax refunds for poor families while making sure corporations get their additional billions is too much to take."

Salon: "After suffering a day of relentless criticism from voting-rights activists, bloggers and lawmakers, the Pentagon decided on Wednesday afternoon to lift the access block it had earlier placed on the Web site for the Federal Voting Assistance Program, the government agency charged with helping Americans living abroad register to vote."

Arizona Daily Star: "CBS got the bill Wednesday for Janet Jackson's eye-catching flash dance during the Super Bowl halftime show: a record $550,000.
'As countless families gathered around the television to watch one of our nation's most celebrated events, they were rudely greeted with a halftime show stunt more fitting of a burlesque show,' said FCC Chairman Michael Powell."
Why was CBS fined the maximum penalty for indecency? First, it is ridiculous that a station is fined for a 'stunt fitting a burlesque show'. I thought that was what tv was all about. Second, Michael Powell is the son of Colin Powell. The FCC is a Bush controlled organization and actually, CBS was fined for showing the Bush memos.
No proof has been given that these memos are false, proof exists that the content of those memos is right. CBS has been attacked from all sides, now also by the Bush cronies in the FCC. It's the right-wing press that keeps hammering on their hunch that the memos might be false, while the facts corroborate the text.
"The sad thing about all of this is that at this point, Murdock, Clear Channel, Eisner, Faux, GM, CNN and the NY Times, the Washington Post are all on the same page - supporting everything and anything Bush does." That is certainly true for the great issues (the smaller ones are suitable for a moderate disagreement with Bush).
How does the Washington Post twist its information? One WP headline: "Despite Bush Flip-Flops, Kerry Gets Label". Who gives the label? For one, the Washington Post does. Very shrewd! By pointing to 'public opinion' as their source, they cunningly hide the fact that it is the press that keeps hammering on the Kerry 'flip-flop' label.
