LATimes: "A draft United Nations report on the detainees at Guantanamo Bay concludes that the U.S. treatment of them violates their rights to physical and mental health and, in some cases, constitutes torture."

CurrentEra: "The CIA's top counter-terrorism official was fired last week because he opposed detaining Al-Qaeda suspects in secret prisons abroad, sending them to other countries for interrogation and using forms of torture such as 'water boarding', intelligence sources have claimed."

Yahoo: "The government concluded its 'Cyber Storm' wargame Friday, its biggest-ever exercise to test how it would respond to devastating attacks over the Internet from anti-globalization activists, underground hackers and bloggers.
Bloggers?
Participants confirmed parts of the worldwide simulation challenged government officials and industry executives to respond to deliberate misinformation campaigns and activist calls by Internet bloggers, online diarists whose 'Web logs' include political rantings and musings about current events."

So this was an exercise in silencing the internet then. If there is someone sending out misinformation it is the US government. The past years have irrefutably confirmed this. Of course, when an administration can only survive on lies, the only thing that threatens them is the truth. A government that has lost all credibility must have control over everything, including the internet, to impose its policies. And these policies are not meant to protect the American people.

ENS: "President George W. Bush's $2.77 trillion budget for Fiscal Year 2007 emphasizes homeland security and nuclear energy development, while drawing early criticism for cutting programs for environmental protection, energy efficiency and low income energy assistance, sustainable energy development, and agriculture.
Republicans for Environmental Protection said President Bush's inclusion of Arctic National Wildlife Refuge drilling revenues in his proposed 2007 budget 'grossly contradicts the call in his State of the Union speech to reduce America's addiction to oil'."

The danger of environmental pollution is much greater than that of possible terrorist attacks. People are dying on a daily basis because of pollution.
What our world needs is protection from the interests of industry and commerce.

LATimes: "Vice President Dick Cheney, quail hunting on a South Texas ranch, accidentally shot and wounded a 78-year-old companion Saturday, hitting him with a spray of shotgun pellets, his office said Sunday."
The only possible comment comes from Borowitz: "Vice President Dick Cheney revealed today that he shot a fellow hunter while on a quail hunting trip over the weekend because he believed the man was the fugitive terror mastermind Ayman al-Zawahiri."

And how they like shooting, the Bush entourage!
Earthjustice: "A recent government proposal would prematurely remove protections for grizzly bears in and around Yellowstone National Park, before the bears are ready to survive without them. Kicking grizzlies off the Endangered Species list would allow the majestic bears to be hunted and their habitat to be destroyed."
