Guardian: "Last week US defence chiefs unveiled their plan for battling global Islamist extremism. They envisage a conflict fought in dozens of countries and for decades to come.
Gen Pace was endorsing the Pentagon's four-yearly strategy review, presented to Congress last week. The report sets out a plan for prosecuting what the Pentagon describes in the preface as 'The Long War', which replaces the 'war on terror'. The long war represents more than just a linguistic shift: it reflects the ongoing development of US strategic thinking since the September 11 attacks.
Looking beyond the Iraq and Afghan battlefields, US commanders envisage a war unlimited in time and space against global Islamist extremism. 'The struggle ... may well be fought in dozens of other countries simultaneously and for many years to come,' the report says. The emphasis switches from large-scale, conventional military operations, such as the 2003 invasion of Iraq, towards a rapid deployment of highly mobile, often covert, counter-terrorist forces.
Among specific measures proposed are: an increase in special operations forces by 15%; an extra 3,700 personnel in psychological operations and civil affairs units - an increase of 33%; nearly double the number of unmanned aerial drones; the conversion of submarine-launched Trident nuclear missiles for use in conventional strikes; new close-to-shore, high-speed naval capabilities; special teams trained to detect and render safe nuclear weapons quickly anywhere in the world; and a new long-range bomber force."
Concern in Europe in growing. It can be expected the US will do everything to involve Europe in the Long War, if need be with lies, blackmail, threats and subversion.
As usual the threat is largely exaggerated.
"Lord Carlile made clear that the lack of public trust in the security and intelligence services over the terrorist threat stemmed directly from the way the government made the case for war in Iraq."
"Today, The Independent publishes detailed analysis of how Tony Blair manipulated the serious threat of terrorism facing Britain to suit the Government's political agenda."
How Tony Blair misled the nation: "The Government has persistently failed to tell the truth either to itself or to the British public about the terror threat in Britain. These failures of diagnosis have led to failures of response. An example is the Prime Minister's denial that there is a connection between the Iraq war and domestic terrorism. That denial is not merely false. It also inhibits the kind of deep understanding of the motives of Muslim terrorists which the Prime Minister presumably wants."
The growing evidence that European governments are secretly and illegally supporting the CIA rendition practice, is very worrying and a sign that our democracies are in a greater danger from our own governments than from an outside threat. The threat from outside will only grow if our governments continue their present aggressive policies.
It seems the powers that be have chosen for war as a way of 'living'.
The purpose is to change the world:
"The mission of U.S. diplomacy will also be redefined through a series of measures ranged under the idea of 'forward deployment', in which diplomats will go into the field and administer programs in addition to their traditional duties."
Translated into normal language this means that the USA will have CIA operatives engaged in subversion, working all over the world under diplomatic shield.

BBC: "Fifty years ago, American scientists were in a frantic race to counter what they saw as the Soviet threat from germ warfare. Biological pathogens they developed were tested on volunteers from a pacifist church and were also released in public places.
But America's Institute of Medicine is conducting a study of more than 6,000 veterans who say their health has been compromised by secret tests in the Cold War years.
Some of these were veteran sailors who were involved in tests known as SHAD - Shipborne Hazard and Defense - which involved spraying lethal chemicals such as sarin and nerve gases in the open sea.
But it wasn't just the white coat volunteers and sailors who were subject to experiments. Scientists used what they thought was a harmless simulant in major bio-weapon tests across US cities and on public transport."
I still remember when I was young, that there was much talk about the Russians and Chinese doing 'brainwashing'. Well, it appears that was a CIA fabrication to justify their own experiments.
Earthops: "Beginning in the early 1950s, CIA engaged in an extensive program of human experimentation, using drugs, psychological, and other means in search of techniques to control human behavior.
CIA documents and a 1963 CIA Inspector General (IG) report state quite clearly that MKULTRA was a program 'concerned with research and development of chemical, biological, and radiological materials capable of employment in clandestine operations to control human behavior'.
It began under the code name BLUEBIRD (and was later known as ARTICHOKE) and was operated by the Office of Security and OSI with support from other offices."
Frank Olson, one of the first scientists to work at Fort Detrick in the U.S. Army's biowarfare facility, founded in 1943, had a role in preparing anthrax and other biological weapons.
The fact that Frank Olson had died shortly after being given LSD in a CIA experiment came out in 1975 as a consequence of President Ford's Rockefeller Commission investigation into the CIA's domestic activities.
Cheney and Rumsfeld were given the task of covering up the details of Frank Olson's death. At the time, Rumsfeld was White House Chief of Staff to President Gerald Ford. Dick Cheney was a senior White House assistant."
A documentary film was made about the whole affair.
The threat doesn't usually come from the outside but from within the nation. Fabricating enemies and anticipating imagined threats poses grave health risks.

Cheney didn't even bother to get a $7 quail stamp for his shooting licence. Deadeye Dick is the laughing stock of the world now.

To prevent accidents like this from happening in the UK and learn the cadets to use guns instead of their boots, chancellor Gordon Brown called for state schools across the UK to establish branches of the Combined Cadet Force, which gives pupils a chance to learn from the disciplines and training of the armed forces.
He is looking for cadets from deprived areas. Yes, quite. You would look for youngsters with no future of course. He'll do the effort of providing the 'New Labour - no future' prospects.
