Decisions, Decisions

Somehow I don't think I'll ever have to make this choice.

They Didn't Kill Kenny

When you're sitting in the waiting room of a doctor's office for an ungoldy length of time (like I was this morning), you have time to reflect on the important things in life.  Love.  Career.  Family.  Kenny Rogers.

Yes, Kenny Rogers (or as he's known in the 'hood, K-Dawg).  As I watched the sickly who came in after me enter the doctor's office before me, I wondered:  what the hell ever happened to Kenny Rogers?  As a kid I loved songs like "The Gambler," "Lady," "Lucille," "Coward of the County," "Ruby," and "Don't Fall in Love with a Dreamer."  I could probably sing them word for word if one came on the radio right now, twenty years or more since I last heard some of them.  In his time, and in his own way, this Mr. Rogers ruled the country neighborhood.  But that moment in the waiting room, I couldn't even tell you if the guy was still alive or not.

So I did a little research to catch-up on my main man, Kenny.  Did you know that:

  • five "The Gambler" movies were made?  FIVE!
  • his movie, Six Pack, only has a 4.5 score on the IMDB?
  • he was named "Favorite Singer of All-Time" by USA Today in 1986?
  • he has record 59 albums, selling over 100 million?
  • Kenny has four Grammys sitting on his mantle?
  • he is performing at the Hollywood Bowl tonight?

Seems like Mr. Rogers has been a hell of a lot busier than I thought he was.  Fifty-nine albums?  I bet he can't even remember half of them.  Quick, Kenny!  What's the first song on the Love Is What We Make It album?  Thought so.
