For Those Going Off To College Soon

The Farewell Tour Underway

Some of my former students invited me to Pizza Hut this afternoon to have a little going away get together before I head off to Germany.  Honestly, that was something very unexpected, but also very nice.  We sat for a couple of hours talking about everything from my plans for my new home to their classes next year.  It really was great to see some of my students for quite possibly the last time.  That is unless that start saving their money now for a reunion in Europe.

So thanks to Ruby, Joaquin, Andrea, Amanda, Alejandra, and Melissa for letting me know that I'll be missed.  I'll definitely miss them.

If You Ever Need A Role Model

For those of you out of the know, Lance Armstrong won his fifth straight Tour de France today, perhaps the toughest sporting event in the world.

I don't know about you, but I have a tough time riding twenty miles on a bike.  I can't even imagine what its like racing over 2,000 miles through rain, over mountains, and torturous heat.  Plus, I've never had cancer, I've never crashed while racing, and I've never had to put up with a whole country hoping I don't succeed in what I want to accomplish most.

Lance Armstrong not only overcame all of that, but he's overcome all of those obstacles five years in a row.

So in a world of selfish athletes, many who are in it just for the money, the sex, or the fame, it is refreshing to know there's at least one man out there who is in it simply because he loves it, and that after very nearly dying of cancer a few years ago, he appreciates life, period.

So if you need a role model, not just for sports, but life in general, you can't do much better than Lance Armstrong.
