Getting Closer

I'm getting closer to the move to Germany.  The new passport arrived yesterday.  I also got my mailing address set-up yesterday, as well.  Today the movers called to discuss all I was shipping overseas.  Things are reaching a critical mass very quickly.

The new passport is odd, though.  It seems like I'd just gotten a passport for the trip to London earlier this year.  Then once I was hired for this new job, I was told I had to get an "official" passport that is only valid for five years.  So now I'm the proud owner of two passports -- one blue and one a brownish maroon color.  The "official" passport is pretty snazzy, though.  Check it out for yourself.

Even more odd than the passport was the ordeal of describing to a complete stranger all the items in your home.  That's what I did this morning when the movers called and wanted to know exactly what I was shipping to Germany.  So I had to walk from room to room describing what I wanted shipped.  Since I'm really not taking all that much because I plan on buying new furniture and appliances once I get there, I must have sounded to the mover like I live in a single-room efficiency rather than a two-bedroom apartment.  Mainly I'm taking a bed, books, computer and clothes.  A few other incidentals, but the bulk of the weight is concentrated in those areas.  Then once I have a new house and can see what I'll need to fill it, I can buy furniture, new TV, etc.  Basically this is turning into an excuse to just trash most of what I have now and start all over.  To be honest, it feels very good.

Oh, on the bandwidth problems I've been having:  things are quieting down a bit, though still nowhere near normal.  What has happened to this site isn't as bad as being Slashdotted, but it has still managed to keep me from posting photos anytime soon.  As of this post, there have been 1,139 hits to this site today.  But that's better than what was happening on Tuesday.  I'm really hoping things will return to normal by Monday.
