All Those In Favor
I enjoy voting. Always have. I used to get a big kick out of going to the fire station that doubled as the polling place for my voting precinct. It always felt great to hear the supporters of the various candidates wishing me a good day and to remember to vote for so-and-so. One year I even got a free cd from a supporter with songs that may have been about the candidate. I'm not sure, though, since it was all in Spanish.
But now I live in Germany. I still want to excerise my right to vote as a US citizen, but I'm not quite sure how to go about it. Since I no longer have a permanent residence in Texas, I figure I won't be voting in those crucial Eagle Pass, Texas elections. That's a bummer. I really was closing watching that constable race in Precinct 3. That heartbreak aside, I still want to vote in the national elections. How to do so is another question entirely.
Why do I want to vote even though I live several thousand miles away? Because I can't stand George W. Bush. Never have. I didn't vote for him as governor, and I sure as hell didn't vote for him as president. I'm not a card-carrying member of any political party, but I do want to make sure I can give my meager support to whoever has the best chance of evicting the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Especially after I watched the Child's Play video.
Now I have found a website tonight that hints that it may be able to help with my dilemma, and as they boldly state on their main page, there's only 292 days until the 2004 General Election. Not a moment to lose, damn it! Be assured, I'll be all over that site the rest of the evening. They haven't made a chad big enough to keep my vote from being counted in the next election.
