Super Bowless
This will be the first time in ten years that I haven't watched the Super Bowl live on television. Back in 1994 I also missed the big game while I worked a conflicting shift at West Telemarketing in San Antonio. Two things sucked about that night: first, having to tape the game and watch it later. Secondly, the fact that I was actually working in telemarketing. Definitely a below-average career move.
Now comes the 2004 edition of the Super Bowl, and while it will be shown live here in Europe, "live" means starting at 11 p.m., and being the early-riser that I am nowadays, I really don't see myself staying up very late to catch the game.
That and I don't give a rat's ass about either team in the game. Patriots versus the Panthers? Who outside of Massachusetts or the hillbillies of the Carolinas can name more than three players on those teams? Put a gun to my head and I couldn't name even a single Panther. Not one. Hence, I really don't care how the game plays out.
I will miss the commercials, though. Yes, I'm one of those losers who got off on watching all the new commercials. I even reviewed a bunch of them last year. Yep, I obviously didn't care too much about last year's teams, either.
So instead of watching the Super Bowl tonight, I may try catching the replay on Sky Sports tomorrow. It'll probably be an editted version, cutting out most of the commercials and time-outs, but I'll at least be making an attempt at keeping up with football traditions. The only trick will be avoiding the score all day tomorrow at work. But then again, would knowing the score ahead of time take any interest out of the game for me if I have none to begin with?
