Who Needs Reasons?

Perhaps the main reason that I don't like President Bush is that he and his followers try to portray him as a straight-shooter.  Someone you can trust to tell you the facts.  They offer him as the antidote of what some feel were the lies and deception of the Clinton years.  True Clinton lied about a blowjob or two.  Bush lied about a reason to go to war.

And deception?  Bush's military "record" is a roadmap on how not to deceive.  Not too many folks manage to serve as he supposedly did and not have a single person remembering that he actually did it.  Unless of course you just take his word for it.  Most people who are going to take the time to lie about something like that would have made sure they had someone to back up their story.  Bush just asumes his word is good enough.  Sorry, but it isn't good enough for me.

Why?  Because we had his word that Saddam possessed these weapons of mass destruction.  That they were definitely there and we were definitely going to find them and prove to the world we were right to attack another country before they attacked us.  Why?  Because this country was an "imminent," "urgent," "mortal," and "immidiate" threat.  Also on 1/3/03 he said "Iraq is a threat to any American." On 10/28/02 he said Iraq was "a real and dangerous threat" to America. On 10/2/02 he said, "The Iraqi regime is a threat of unique urgency" and that Iraq posed "a grave threat" to America.  [Bush, 11/23/02; Bush; 1/3/03; Bush, 10/28/02; Bush, 10/2/02; Bush, 10/2/02].

And since the war began, Bush hasn't been able to provide even a single shred of evidence to back any of those claims up.  Not even one.  You would think that if Bush was so sure about this danger, and he was willing to put American soldiers out their to not only risk, but for many to lose their lives, by now one of these WMD would have been found.  Or at least the labs they were designed in.  Or the factories they were manufactured in.  Or the people who worked on them.  Or the documents outlining the plans to use them.  Or anything.

But not one piece of evidence has appeared.  And by now, people are beginning to realize that this is because Bush's reasons for going to war never existed.

I'll tell you what does exist.  Over five hundred American families exist who will never see alive their soldier who was sent by Bush to Iraq to stop that "imminent" threat against America.  Over five hundred families and increasing at a rate of almost two per day.  How Bush and his supporters can sleep at night knowing that is beyond me.

One online article you should read is the breakdown of Bush's claims during his recent interview on Meet the Press.  These claims are matched up with what he has said before or with evidence to refute his claims.  Not just about the war, but about his presidency in general.  Very sobering reading.  That and just a little infuriating.

Sorry nothing funny to write today.  I'm just not in a funny mood.
