Truly Triumphant
I'll admit that I'm late jumping onboard the Triumph the Insult Comic Dog Bandwagon, but now that I've experienced some of the pleasures of his suave and laid-back interviewing style, I'm quickly becoming a big fan.
Main reason why I'm so late to trumpet the goodness of Triumph is that I don't watch any of the late night talk shows. Nor do I watch MTV much, so I missed the whole thing with him and Eminem when it first gripped the nation. Not that I'm losing much sleep over that. MTV stopped being crucial to my well-being right around the time puberty ended. So we're talking about two or three years ago.
I also didn't closely follow his lawsuit with the Pets.com puppet a few years back. Puppets suing one another. That's what the U.S. judicial system allows. No wonder the rest of the planet can't stand the United States.
Now on the off-hand chance you are like me and have been missing out on the whole Triumph the Insult Comic Dog experience, here's a primer:
- He's got a smoking problem: can't keep the cigar from falling out of his mouth.
- He likes to hump things. Mainly poodles.
- He likes to poop on things.
- He's a puppet and not actually a real dog.
- Some people get confused by the last entry.
- He appears most frequently on the Conan O'Brien Show, debuting in 1997.
But that primer doesn't real capture Triumph's spirit, so I recommend watching a few videos of him in action. My clear favorite is one where he harasses a bunch of Star Wars nerds waiting to see Attack of the Clones. Absolute comic gold. Second favorite would probably be his interview of Bon Jovi.
You can see those clips by downloading them off of Kazaa or just going to the archive of some of his best moments on MilkandCookies.com. Well worth the time to download.
