Jim's Pond - Exploring the Universe of Ideas
"Beware when the great God lets loose a thinker on this planet. Then all things are at risk. It is as when a conflagration has broken out in a great city, and no man knows what is safe, or where it will end." --Ralph Waldo Emerson

Busy Daze

Yes, in some ways the title is a poor pun. Tuesday has been filled with many miles and few meetings. I met with Eric Mantz, CEU CIO, this morning. We discussed the UEN Network Operating Agreement. A central part of the agreement is establishing a Security Point of Contact to deal with UEN. And part of that is also defining the working relationship between the UEN Security department and our customers.

Here is the language from the Security section of the NOA:

  • Subscribing to the UEN Security distribution lists
  • Reading and understanding distribution list notifications
  • Working within SUU to be the [base "]security conscience[per thou].
  • Participating in weekly Security calls and monthly security briefings.
  • Establishing and administrating an Institutional AUP addressing Security.
  • Establishing an OS Patching Plan and following through to see that all Operating Systems are patched to current level.
  • Eric is a busy man. He has a lot of responsibility. And he's willing to take on more. He assigned himself to be the CEU Security POC. He knows it won't be easy.

On Wednesday and Thursday Dan and I will meet with the Network Managers and CIOs at SNOW COLLEGE, SNOW Richfield, DIXIE COLLEGE and Southern Utah University. We will have similar discussions. I'm looking forward to it........
