Jim's Pond - Exploring the Universe of Ideas
"Beware when the great God lets loose a thinker on this planet. Then all things are at risk. It is as when a conflagration has broken out in a great city, and no man knows what is safe, or where it will end." --Ralph Waldo Emerson

Travel Day

This is not the way I like to spend a Saturday.

As I write this I am 90 minutes or so from landing in Washington, D.C. at Reagan National Airport. I was concerned about getting through the security checkpoint in SLC. It turned out to me a non-event. I was standing near the back of a hundred person line when a pleasant security person tapped me on the shoulder and said, "One."

She went on to the next person in line, and the next, until five of us were numbered. She then announced that her supervisor had given her permission to take five people. I was wondering if this was going to be a strip search. It turned out that we jumped ahead and were taken to the employee security checkpoint. I was through security in about five minutes. Bonus.

You can't plan for that sort of thing, so I got to me gate an hour and 45 minutes early.

I'll be spending a few days with my Uncle Art. You know, the one who drives in heavy traffic while consulting his PDA. I hope to have no near-death experiences while traveling with him. I also hope to spend time as a tourist in downtown DC on Monday. That's the trade-off. Travel today, take my Saturday on Monday.

Tuesday and Wednesday I will be attending the Quilt Conference. Ah, the joys of business travel........
