Moving On
Work days are so busy lately that there is hardly time to concentrate on outside projects. So I sent off a message to Lawrence Lee (Radio Guru) last night and forgot about the weblog until this evening. Lawrence replied and asked to have me send my weblogData.root file so he could look it over and see what is wrong. So tonight I zipped it up and sent it off. No use worrying now.
Today there was a Technical Lunch and Learn at West Valley City Hall with Utopia and Dynamic City. It's pretty clear. I don't know enough to form an opinion right now. So much has changed and this seems to be an ever evolving process. What do I know for sure right now? Not much.
My friends on one side of the issue are, this may be overstated, violently against Utopia. Or as one person said to me, name withheld, everything was being done to stop Utopia.
On the other side I have friends, well respected, that are now claiming support for the Utopia project. Some have made the journey from credulty to qualified support. A couple have even imbibed the Kool-aid. Hard to say what I'll do. Maybe it doesn't matter. No one is knocking down my door to get my opinion.
I do support the idea of community networks. And I do think that the best candidate for building community networks is the municipality. But I do think there is a better business plan and technical approach to the community network than anything I've seen so far.
And another thing is for sure. If I were Qwest (and it's certain that I'm not and that I have limited mojo here.) I would be investing in fiber to the house in a big BIG way. What do they have to lose. They're regulated! Think about it. Every dollar invested is guaranteed return.
Well, it's time for me to do some homework and quit speculating........
