Survey says...
1. Favorite circs, wooden, metal and other.
Addi Turbos by a long shot with a fair showing for Crystal Palace.
2. Favorite straights.
Very interesting response here: A lot of you don't use them (neither do I), but for those who do you liked Brittany, Crystal Palace, Susan Bates teflon-coated aluminum, La Droguerie bamboo's and the good old fashioned colored aluminum like grandma used.
3. Best stitch holders.
Waste yarn--doesn't stretch out stitches.
4. Best stitch markers.
We're a pack of frugal knitters--loops of leftover yarn topped the list with Inox, Susan Bates, safety pins and Stasia of Stasia's Place of Grace also making the list.
5. Favorite dpns.
Brittany by a nose. Clover Bamboo, Pony Pearls, Crystal Palace, Lantern Moon Rosewood and La Droguerie also placed.
6. Best circular organization system.
No consensus on best circular organization system (still looking for answers, I feel like I live with snakes!). Responses ran the gamut between Quaker Oats cans and plastic accordian files to the Circular Solution and a leather bottle holder with three pockets that when hanging on the wall makes the circs "look like art."
7. Favorite designer.
Much discussion here. (Drum roll please.) First place goes to Kim Hargreaves. Second to Alice Starmore and a tie for third to Elsebeth Lavold, Jean Moss and Debbie Bliss.
8. Coolest tote.
We were all over the map on this one though handmade felted totes edged out things like zip lock bags, laptop cases, straw bags, canvas and leather bags.
9. Hottest knit mag.
Interweave Knits by a long shot. Honorable mentions go to Knitter's, Knitty, Spin-Off, Rowan and Vogue Knitting (my vote).
10. Favorite cast on/cast off.
Long-tail cast on with cable cast on close on its heels. Most of you went for the regular bind off.
11. Best knitting secret.
The best knitting secret is cables look harder than they really are.
Even though I'm a lefty, I work patterns as they're written. It's technically the wrong direction, but it's always worked out so far!
I carry a small print-out of all my needles (wood, metal, aluminum, straights, circs and dpn's) in my wallet at all times. I started this after coming home with my 3rd set of circular size 9's in an identical 24 inch length.
you don't need to fuss with a cable needle to do cables.
If you can't see the mistake from a galloping horse at 50 feet - forget it!
My favorite knitting secret is that having an organized stash and pattern files really saves a lot of time.
Keeping notes for every single thing I do on a project. Creates consistency in all my knitted pieces :-)
the best secret is that knitting is a lot easier than it looks.
Count your stitches. Then count them again.
(And from Nake-id Knits)...try anything. It's all adjustable.
Daily kudos: Congratulations to pal Janet "Elyse" Singleton for winning the Colorado Book Award for her fabulous debut novel This Side of the Sky. Hint, hint it's now out in paperback.
