Tuesday Miscellany
Attention bibliophiles: Many of you are aware that Hamilton Books sells publishers' closeouts and remainders at up to 80 percent off. They currently have 46 knitting titles up for grabs. Click here for knitting bouty. (No affiliation, just impressed.)
Lovin' loop stitch: Loop stitch is the technique that gives Poodle its poodle. Here's the secret:
Row 1: Knit.
Row 2: Insert the needle knitwise and knit one stitch without pulling it off the left-hand needle. Bring the yarn in front as if to purl and wrap it around your left thumb (this forms the loop). Then knit into the same stitch still remaining on your left-hand needle and slip off. You now have two stitches on your right needle. Pass the first stitch over the second. Repeat across the row.
Rocky Mountain Weavers Guild scoopage: Every year Denver area weavers (and knitters) showcase their work at the annual Rocky Mountain Weavers Guild Fiber Arts Sale. This year it runs Thursday, Oct. 23 and Friday, Oct. 24, 10-6 and Saturday, Oct. 25, 10-3 at the Englewood Civic Center, 1000 Englewood Parkway. Last year the work was totally amazing. It's a great place to snap up a really special gift.
And watch for a Nake-id Knit-a-long coming soon to a blog near you!
Daily rant: Yesterday, I interviewed a social worker at Goodwill Industries, who in trying to help me understand her clients' lives, told me this story: Last week, Adams County reopened its waiting list for Section 8 (subsidized) housing. An estimated 500 people lined up around the building just to see if they could get their names on this waiting list. One day, one county, 500 people. Clearly, a sign of the times.
