This letter to the editor at the Purdue student paper decrying the scarcity of beautiful women at that university has been making the rounds on the web the past few days.

My first thought is, what dolt at the editorial desk would run a letter like that, and for what reason?  But in retrospect, I think it might be a brilliantly poignant move (though perhaps it wasn't intended to be.)

Why?  Let's face it.  Sadly, Brown's only saying what most men are thinking:  Beauty's only skin-deep.  (And no, "Christian" men are not absolved from this).  By running this letter, the paper actually does a service to the world by exposing how ridiculous this kind of thinking works.  Maybe somewhere along the line, somebody reading this letter will realize how absurd it is, and be incilned to change their own viewpoint.

I'm not really holding out a whole lot of hope for that, but it's possible.

Indianapolis 500 News of the Day:

Scott Dixon and Gil de Ferran have been cleared to drive after their injuries earlier this year (de Ferran at Phoenix and Dixon at Motegi).  That leaves only Tony Kanaan left of the "walking wounded" IRL regulars to be officially cleared for the month.

Track opens for practice on Sunday.

One of my first writing projects for this site, in addition to my autobiography of sorts I'm hoping to post, is a driver-by-driver preview of the "Month of May."  Hopefully I can get it up within the next week or so.
