Independent online journalism is a huge hit in South Korea, where about 70 percent of houselholds in Seoul have broadband internet access.
With Ohmynews, we wanted to say goodbye to 20th century journalism where people only saw things through the eyes of the mainstream, conservative media," said Oh in his small office in downtown Seoul, surrounded by dozens of young editors hunched over computer terminals.
I suppose that old American mantra works in a different direction in the other hemisphere, eh? ;-)

The Lost Dogs were in Vincennes, IN last night. I couldn't go. (Ok, I really didn't make an effort to go, but it was beyond my knowledge to figure out a way to get there.) That would certainly have been great to see. I'm not sure if all three of the LDs were there, or if it was just Terry Taylor (I suspect the latter, but I don't know.) I'd imagine it's pretty difficult to get three guys of their stature all out on the road at the same time. (Plus, I know TT has been to Vincennes before, but then again, so has Mike Roe.)
Anyway, I do have the new LD album, "Nazerene Crying Towel," and it's quite solid. Taylor wrote virtually all of the songs, and they are more or less patterned after what his solo work has sounded like recently; a very Americana, dirty-country type flavor.

Using Termite Flatulence Against Them. Terry Clark, a pest-control guru, has developed a new method to track termites, by monitoring the methane gas they..um..expel.
Is this turning into the weblog of the weird or what? It's the NYT, though.
Anyway, I really don't have any good flatulance jokes to follow that, and I consider this to be a good thing.

Writers: Do you remember the first thing you ever wrote as a kid?
I did last night, though for what reason I wasn't sure.
My jump into the pool of writing came with a series of short stories when I was in 1st or 2nd grade. They featured characters named after the fish we had in our little aquarium in the living room (I also named the fish, by the way.) The lead character's name was "Blackmanom" (a black fish, if you couldn't tell). I don't remember many of the others, only that I was constantly introducing new characters into the ongoing drama.
My handwriting at that age was exceptionally bad, so I comandeered my mother to be my secretary and dictated the stories to her. We even turned them into smallish "books" by putting colored paper covers on the front and back.
In a way, I wish I still had one of those, and in a way, I don't. Maybe that's why I've never written much in terms of fiction since that time. :-)

Sorry for the relative lack of updates since I've been home. My brain has decided to switch itself off for a few days in the post-school year mode right now. I'll be back to normal shortly. I've also committed the fatal blogger's error by posting things that the readers have no interest in. While I can't really guage precisely what you people are interested in reading, I can usually keep a fair idea in mind.
I bought a new modem yesteerday, but it wasn't packaged with a modem cord I need to run it to the serial port on my computer, so I'll have to curtail a ride into town (on a horse and carraige?) tomorrow to procure one.
