Sept. 1

Today is Labor Day, so in recognition, this fine university has decided to make us labor.  Well, a little bit anyway  Yes, it's the first day of class here.  If I haven't relayed my dream schedule to you yet, let me reiterate:  I have 5 classes, 15 hours, no class before 1 PM all week, no class on Friday at all, classes on each day are 15 minutes apart and in the same building (no small feat at this campus).

Frankly, I think I might have the most perfect schedule ever devised.

I got a flyer for the Intervarsity Bible study here in Wilkie.  I may go, over to the Dark Side.  My reasoning is forthcoming at some point.

Blown by the wind, this way and that

If I ever intended my blog to be a place where I could control how much the audience sees and hoodwink them into believing me a more idealized and complete person, well, I haven't executed that very well.

I suppose when all you are is a carnal thinker, even the internet can't save you.  Oh, for once I'm not trying to induce pity out of my readers, not this time.  I know by now what I ought to be but it's so much easier to lament the chasm than to build a bridge over it.

Building me up; I've had a number of great men influence me past and present, and so little of it has sunk in.  Maybe I'm cursed by my own transparency.

Quote of the Week (or so)

"Joy is prayer - Joy is strength - Joy is love - Joy is a net of love by which you can catch souls." -Mother Teresa

Admonition

I visited here for the first time Saturday night, a small miracle that I even found the place considering I've almost never gone into town alone, (though it's really not at all complicated, just a typical gridded downtown, I just get lost on my way in more ways than one.)  The act that night was a blues-influenced guitar/vox and bass set; guitar player was mediocre at best, but the songs themselves were more than tolerable.

I bumped into a former student I used to know from a couple of years back, and he gave me some advice concerning journalism:  "Be really good," he said, " because that was my degree and I couldn't find anything when I got out."  Not really confidence-inspiring, but worthwhile nonetheless.
