Look Ethyl...

...it's a map of Europe with each country's name in it's native language.

I'll bet you've always wanted to know (ok, I thought it was kind of interesting.)

Well, at least it didn't melt

The French are outraged over chocolate dilution.

In August, French connoisseurs of chocolate definitively lost a battle against the bureaucrats of the European Union. Up to 5 percent of the cocoa butter in chocolate may be replaced by other vegetable fats — Mr. Constant refers to them as "bad margarine" — and still be called chocolate.

Ah, they never cease to amuse.

Quote of the Day (or so)

"A minister flings his soul away if he spends his energies in the attempt to please his congregation. It may not be well that some of you should be pleased. I have never yet heard of a salmon that liked the hook which had taken sure hold of it, nor do men admire sermons which enter their souls."

-Charles E. Spurgeon

T...TV...TV shows

Courtesy of my media management class, where we had to draw up ideas for the worst shows in television (not an easy task, since most of the bad ideas are already taken, or so you'd think) for one of those "team-building" exercises.  Here are a few that I remember:

ATM-cam TV:  The entire show consists of a security camera focused on an ATM machine in a random city, where the audience has to guess which city the camera is in.  The producers would go to great lengths to insure nothing ever happened on camera, although the audience would continually be teased about something happening in the future.

The Last Days of our Lives:  Reality show based in a seedy LA-area nursing home filled with ex-stars and drug addicts.   Hijinks abound.  Losers of denture-spitting contests have bathroom priveleges and other services revoked.  Just an all-around cruel show.  (In the interest of full disclosure, this was my group's idea.)

Your Saddest Moment:   Studio audience members relay the saddest times in their lives, which are reenacted by a trained team of pantomimes.  That's all I remember about this one.

Elevator Cam:  Similar to the ATM Cam, (they were from different groups though..weird) except the security camera would be in a random elevator, office building, bathroom et. al. and the dead-air scenes would be edited out.  Especially quick to feature humiliating moments such as people picking their noses in an elevator (I don't ever do that, of course, just so you know).

That's all I can remember offhand.  There was another idea involving trailer parks, but I didn't quite understand what that was all about.
