The Perfect Liberal Storm. [little green footballs]
Howard Dean wants the white trash vote. That's not exactly what he said, but that's clearly what he meant when he said he wanted the votes of "guys with Confederate flags in their pickup trucks." It was a beautiful moment. It produced at the very next Democratic debate the perfect liberal storm: a comedy of class snobbery, regional condescension and political correctness, with a touch of race-baiting thrown in for good measure.

The truth will set us free.
We should accept that they are at war with us and cease the intellectual dishonesty and moral cowardice that makes us worry about bombing during Ramadan in Afghanistan while our religious enemies seek to inaugurate these same holidays with the murders of Americans. When you are at war and you care more about the sanctity of your enemies' religious holidays than they do, you are in serious trouble.

According to the frothing cows at NOW who for some reason feel they need to speak for me, (I'll speak for myself, thank you!):
"Affirmative Action is necessary so that women and people of color of every economic class have the opportunity to enter all fields."
We DO have the opportunity you screeching twits! I had the opportunity to apply for this job and I did. What difference does it make what my gender is? I saw the ad in the Texas Workforce System, I read the job, I sent in my resume. Look! I just took my opportunity to enter that field without the aid of Affirmative Action.
"Women and people of color still face discrimination."
EVERYONE in this country faces discrimination. Yes, I have faced discrimination simply because I'm female. That is NOT my problem, that is the problem of the person who is discriminating against me. I don't want a job because the company has a quota to fill, I want a job because they recognize my education and skills! If I find I didn't get a job because I'm female, (and yes! it has happened a few times), I DON'T WANT TO WORK THERE! I do not wish to surround myself with people who are going to look down at me, constantly doubting my abilities and making quick judgements or excuses everytime I make a mistake. Screw that! Hey look! I made that choice all by myself without the hand holding of Affirmative Action!

Save Mart Center Debuts. I absolutely love this article about the arena, which presents the thing as Chicken Soup for the Fresnan's Soul: For years, Fresno has had a problem with self-doubt and a negative image. But now, that may be over. Heh. We've... [The Accidental Jedi]
The Jedi has lots of good reading tonight. This may not seem like a big deal to people who live in REAL big cities. Fresno has always been the butt of TV and movie jokes and probably rightfully so. Now we suddenly have a new world class baseball stadium and the new arena you see in this article. Now if we can just get the FSU Bulldogs into a new football stadium we will be the cats meow (sorry Acidman) at least as far as sports go! Then we can work on running the gangs out of town and actually make Fresno a great place to live. Capt. Poopdeck

Goodbye to Shady Pines. [Dowbrigade News]
As we old fogies approach muddle age, our thoughts turn to how we are planning to spend our "golden years". Specifically, how to avoid getting farmed out to pasture by self-serving relatives tired of hearing our sorry stories over and over and having to change our ™Depends.
My shadowy college roomate, who is appearantly once again on the loose, writes with his own plan for avoiding the trip to Shady Pines.
"With the average cost for a Nursing Home per day reaching $188.00, there IS a better way when we get old & feeble.

Best of the Web Today - November 7, 2003
By JAMES TARANTO [Wall Street Journal]
End of an Era Let history record Nov. 6, 2003, as the day on which the civil rights movement in America drew to a close. For that is the day the Atlanta Journal-Constitution published the following sentence, in an article on the judicial nomination of Janice Rogers Brown:
Prominent blacks charged President Bush deliberately chose a conservative black woman so it would be harder for senators to vote against her.
Having long ago achieved the indisputably noble goal of ensuring that America lives up to the promise of equal justice under the law for all citizens regardless of race, the civil rights movement turned to the more dubious pursuit of "affirmative action." Now, however, they are complaining that blacks receive favorable treatment. Lamenting President Bush's choice of a black woman, and senators' discomfiture in voting against her, are leaders of such venerable civil-rights organizations as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and the National Council of Negro Women.
The civil rights movement has a proud and grand history. Now that its leaders are reduced to carping over what used to be termed "reverse discrimination," it seems safe to say that the problems that necessitated the movement are history as well.

Loving the Bush Haters. [Dog Snot Diaries]
I LOVE GEORGE W. BUSH. I worship the man. I wake up every morning glad he is president. When annoyed by small things--traffic, the weather, an overcharge--I say to myself, "President Bush," and at once feel better. I like his worldview. I like his dogs and his wife and his mother. I think he looks cool in his shorts and his t-shirts. But it isn't these things that make my heart flutter: It's that he drives the people I hate the most nuts.

This quiet little town except for Homecoming days.
This small sleepy rural agricultural town in Central California is the home of the Super Hornet. When the carriers come home from deployment we get a big air show on Homecoming day as all the planes fly over the community in formation. The noise is awesome. It's the same sound Saddam heard just before he hauled ass to the underground bunker. It's the sound he heard the day after the French and Russians told him we were pussys who wouldn't attack. Capt. Howard Dean and the Confederate Flag [Bastard Powered]
and ye shall be judged not by your works, or your deeds, or your thoughts, but by a piece of cloth. Dean has singlehandedly blown away what little Democratic support was left in the south. Way to go Doc! Capt. Poopdeck
