Read this and explain to me why we don't need some new people in charge.
If this type of autocratic activity by Coliseum Director Matt Brown is truly found to, "...mirror problems found in a 1984 audit of the coliseum that eventually led to the resignation of then-coliseum director Jim Oshust", as N&R reporter Matt Williams suggests, Brown and Oshust should share a similar fate.
An Analogy - if you are into such things...
I own a corporation that has several divisions. One of my corporation's divisions, The BlackHole, lost $2M last year, will probably lose $1.5M this year and we project it will lose $1.6M in 04-05.
My Board of Directors continues to agree to subsidize The BlackHole because my COO and his staff keeps assuring us that, even though it is costing the corporation a lot to keep the division afloat, it is worth the expenditure because The BlackHole brings profits to the corporation via spending with some of our other divisions and adds to the "quality of life" for all of the corporation's stockholders.
It is a common assumption that the customers who visit and buy souvenirs from The BlackHole also support my other subsidiaries and would not do so without it. It is argued that most other corporations similar to mine have divisions similar to The BlackHole, and without The BlackHole, we would not be considered as a viable corporation and thus wouldn't attract new stockholders. I have asked for a cost benefit analysis of the red-ink-bleeding BlackHole division to determine its intrinsic and actual monetary value to the community, but so far I have not seen the report.
The BlackHole has many suppliers that provide products that are sold to our customers. Our largest supplier, The HoleFillers supply The BlackHole with a product that has lost favor with our customers in recent years so they are not doing very well financially. The manager of The BlackHole talked with my COO and a few of my Board of Directors over the summer and warned them that unless The BlackHole takes over management of the HoleFillers, The BlackHole would lose even more money than was already projected in this fiscal year. My Board of Directors informally agreed to do this, but they did not tell me about it until the deal was done. I am still a little upset about that.
This morning I found out from my private investigator that my high-paid manager of The BlackHole cut a deal with The HoleFillers last year. This deal caused The BlackHole to lose even more money than my Board of Directors had agreed to lose on the division, or at least I think it did.... I'm not sure yet.
The truth is that I, the person who puts up all of the money to make this corporation remain solvent, have no idea where this additional loss in The BlackHole's operations might show up. The BlackHole manager negotiated a contract with the HoleFillers with the help my corporate attorney. If The HoleFillers couldn't hold up their end of the contract, we should have renegotiated it or sued their butts for non-performance.
If it is revealed that this contract was broken by my employee without the approval of my attorney or my COO or the Board of Directors, heads WILL roll. I am calling for an audit. I'm also going to demand that my requested cost/benefit analysis of The BlackHole gets done. It is time to make some hard decisions about that division... I am wondering if my current Board of Directors is up to the task?
