The last line in the above linked N&R piece by Denise Becker is, "...a rosier future is 10, 20, even 30 years down the line -- little comfort to displaced workers facing a mortgage payment at the end of the month."
A related column by Kansas City Star columnist Jerry Heaster points out that we can't continue to demand the lowest price and quality in the goods we buy and concurrently expect to have good paying jobs. The two are diametrically opposed to each other. Heaster calls it "economic hypocrisy" and this is something you can choose not to participate in.
