David Hoggard's take on local politics and life in general from Greensboro, NC

Tonight is National Night Out and the Aycock Neighborhood has been observing it for many years.  Although we don't normally need an excuse for getting a bunch of neighbors together for food, drink and conversation, NNO generally brings folks together that our famous impromptu 'porch parties' might night attract on a regular basis.

For the last several years, we have combined NNO with our annual neighborhood-wide business meeting and we will be doing so again this year.  During this meeting we will make sure that everyone is up to speed on the many initiaitves the Board of Directors tend to juggle and forward here in the 'hood.  In addition we will hold our elections for a two-year term on our board during the meeting.

I have again been tapped to roll out the big ol' pig cooker and I'll be throwing on a bunch of Boston Butts on the fire to feed the masses.  I'll start them cooking sometime before noon today.  With the addition of traditional fixin's and various cold drinks, the entire neighborhood will eat well this evening.

In case your neighborhood doesn't have a get together planned tonight, you are welcome to come on over to Sternberger Park on 5th Avenue sometime after 7:00 and grab you some 'que.  But it'll cost you $7.00 a plate ($5 for the kids).  I always put a few extra butts on for the unexpected guest or twenty.
