The Hoggard clan is in Chicago for our second, and last, sports vacation of the summer. The trip was a surprisingly easy 12-hour drive from Greensboro yesterday.
We are here because 15 year-old son Jack qualified for the goalie position on the North Carolina 'State Wars' roller hockey team. Over the next 4 days, NC will compete with teams from nineteen other states.
North Carolina (and expecially Greensboro) has a long history of excellence in roller hockey competition. Jackson (and our other two kids) started out many years ago playing for the Greensboro Indoor Roller Hockey league under the guidance of Ed Hathaway. Ed still runs the hockey organization and the roller rinks at the Greensboro Sportsplex. If your child wants to take up a wonderful sport that has a place for beginners and experienced skaters alike - check out Ed's program.
Anyway... I'll keep you posted on the NC team's progress. Their first game is this evening.
Because we have several hours before tonight's game, Jesse, Josie and I are going to take the "L" downtown and climb on top of the Sears Tower and then go visit the Field Museum.
