Sunday night, after a very restful weekend with my daughters in Friday Harbor, my car overheated on the way home. Had to get it towed 60 miles home. Fortunately, the local car dealership is downhill from my house, so yesterday morning I got it in for service. Picked it up this afternoon, all better. You don't realize how much your daily stability is based upon things like your car, until it breaks.

Yesterday afternoon, I started to feel a tickle in the back of my throat... my daughter was sick over the weekend, so I knew immediately what it meant. Today I took my first sick day in over a year. I'll admit it: I'm a lousy sick person. I fight it every step of the way, and in the end I just make myself sicker and for longer. But this morning I felt lousy enough that it wasn't worth the fight and I just gave in to being broken. I slept for four hours in the middle of the day, and woke up feeling worse -- but food and medicine did the trip, and I'm doing better this evening.

But not a terribly good start to the week.
