I haven't posted any Orca news in a while, and today I have some good news!!! The National Marine Fisheries Service has officially listed the southern resident orcas (the ones that hang around the San Juan Islands every summer) as endangered. This has been a multi-year, very political fight, but the good guys won in the end.

Last month, the NMFS issued a draft conservation plan for the southern resident orcas. You can find a writeup here. It covers most, if not all, of the issues I've blogged about previously.

Yay!
