Irish Fest [posted by Troy]
As many of you know, St. Patrick's Day in Chicago is pretty much second only to Christmas as far as size of holidays. We try to make it last for about two weekends if possible. In honor of the festivities, I thought I'd share this fact sheet from the US Census Bureau on St. Patty's Day & the Irish in the US. Here are some tidbit from it:

*34.5 million US residents claim Irish ancestry. That's around 12% of the populaion.

*Nearly 26,000 US residents speak Irish Gaelic at home.

*41.5 billion & 2.5 billion: U.S. beef and cabbage production, respectively, in pounds, in 2004.

*8 million: Number of St. Patrick’s Day cards Americans exchanged last year, making this observance the ninth-largest card-sending occasion in the United States. (Source: Hallmark research.)

*93.3 million:Number of people who reportedly planned to wear green last St. Patrick’s Day.
