Who's got the Plate? [Posted by Kim] This post was inspired by a car Troy and I tried to chase down on the expressway. It was a little sharp looking red convertible, but what caught our attention was the license plate which sported the sole number "1". We speculated who it could be and almost got in an accident trying to find out. So I did a little digging...It turns out it just belongs to a wife of Richard Ogilvie, an old Governor. Apparently it used to be a tradition in Illinois to give No. 1 to whoever is Chicago's Catholic Leader at the time. When Cardinal John Cody took over the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago he turned it down. That's when the Secretary of State at the time, John Lewis gave it to Dorothy Ogilvie.

Power of Information [posted by Troy] This NY Times article about Reason Magazine is more than a year old, but I've meant to blog for a while. The article talks about the cover of the magazine where each subscriber received a unique cover image that was a satellite photo of their house. It demonstrates the power of databases and the information that is out there. I think of this because I listened to a podcast the other day about the future ability of search technologies to search smells, images, and sounds. We are moving beyond storing and searching just text. It's sort of crazy to think about how this might work.

Accidently in Love [posted by Troy] So, Jordan's band Vocal Chaos has a song on this Soundclick.com site. Check this out soon, while the song is still posted. It was at #21, but in case it changes, it's called "Accidenlty in Love." It's totally acapella. It sounds good.
