Cork [posted by Troy] Here's a citation for all of you wine drinkers out there. This answers that age-old question, "where does cork come from?"Corkmasters: Details about cork, the "outer bark of the evergreen cork oak (Quercus suber). This variety of oak grows mainly in Portugal, Spain, southern France, Italy, and the Maghreb." Includes a description of making cork bottle stoppers, an overview of environmental issues (such as recycling corks), and industry data. Also includes links to Portugal travel material. From APCOR, the Portuguese Cork Association, which promotes the Portuguese cork industry and products made of cork. (citation from Lii.org)

10,000+ [posted by Troy] There was a rally held at the federal building in downtown Chicago over the proposed immigration bill. There are rallies at the federal plaza downtown on a fairly regular basis, but this one took people by surprise due to the sheer number of people. The Sum Times reports over 10,000 attended, while the USA Today reports there were over 100,000. This CBS2 page has a little video clip. The big concern of US citizens is the part of the proposed law that makes it illegal to help an undocumented worker. This rings a little bit of Orwellian possibilities where everyone is spying on everyone else. If an undocumented worker helps me in a restaruant or something, am I breaking the law? The trouble is that our economy is build upon this cheap labor. Do we have enough prisons to handle this sort of law?
