Back to the Future with elections [posted by ZelderBar] Well, it turns out that in Illinois the newest, most modern voting technology is called "pen and paper." It is an innovative system. This system utilizes special a "hand counting mechanism" to total up the votes. For those of you who do not live in Illinois, you may not have heard that the experiment with new machines didn't go so well, and that judges are counting the votes. But in any case, Rod Blagojevich and Judy Barr Topinka will be duking it out for governor in November. Check out this CBS2 article, Blagojevich, Topinka Start Election With A Bang, for more info.

Here's a quote: Late last year in Goldfield, Iowa, a refinery began pumping out a stream of ethanol, which supporters call the clean, renewable fuel of the future. There's just one twist: The plant is burning 300 tons of coal a day to turn corn into ethanol - the first US plant of its kind to use coal instead of cleaner natural gas.
