The Signs are all Around Me Here's another sign that the cold weather is approaching: I've been craving moose stew and dumplings for the last few days. I got up early this morning and now have the pot simmering away. If I get energetic I'll make fresh bread to go with it.
This is also the time of year that I typically go through a semi-annual purging exercise. Yesterday I sold the stove we used to have in our old kitchen and I think I have a buyer for the old fridge too. Nice to have a bit more space in the garage. I delivered some more of Raji's clothes to the consignment store and I have a whole truckload of things to take to the re-use table at the town dump later today. I'm putting all my Scottish dancing outfits up for sale and I even have a big box of food for the food bank.
Speaking of donating, I am thinking of taking all the money that I would normally spend on Christmas presents for friends and extended family and use it to help stock a medical clinic and to purchase some farm animals to help people in Third World countries. I think most people would be OK with this, although I do have a couple of very young nieces who may not understand (although I guess it's part of my job to help them understand, right?) I'm always wary of organizations like World Vision though, in spite of the fact that their financial statements in their annual report seem to be above board. I would rather give the money directly, but that's not easily done. Any suggestions?
