One of Those Days....
Yesterday, Joe had one of those awful days that only come around once in a while (thankfully) but when they do you feel like a big boulder keeps landing on you....again and again and again. He often has elders come visit his class, and sometimes they all go outside and sit around a big firepit: drinking tea, eating bannock and listening to the elders' stories.
Joe was doubtful about doing it yesterday because it looked like it was going to snow, but the elders really wanted to, so he did. Half way through, the snow came and the elders started to get chilled. One of them needed a washroom badly, but the washrooms were far away, back in the college. So Joe drove her over to the near-by student residence and started knocking on doors to see if he could find someone home who would let her use their facilities. By the time they found someone, it was too late, and the poor elder had wet herself.
Joe felt terrible, and did whatever he could to help her. Meanwhile, another instructor was supposed to take the second elder home, but she (the teacher) disappeared. No one could find her, so Joe missed a dental appointment to get both elders home. When they were leaving, one of them said to Joe, "I just saw someone being carried out to an ambulance." It turns out it was the missing instructor....she had been running in the student residence trying to find Joe to help him with both elders when she ran head on into a glass wall and was knocked back five feet, flat on her back. Her nose is likely broken and they were going to x-ray her head for concussion. Yikes!
Iris, though, had a very good day. She found out she won $500 in a contest! She has to spend it for educational purposes: it'll be interesting to see what she decides to do with it.
