Dreaming
I've been having some vivid dreams lately. A couple of nights ago I dreamed that I found a snake in my house. In my waking life I have quite an admiration for snakes, but in this dream I did not. It hissed at me so I grabbed it and threw it out into the snow, realizing that at the cold temperatures we were having, it would freeze to death quickly. However a dog, taking pity on the snake, wrapped itself around the reptile, keeping it alive. What was that all about?

In last night's dream, I was carrying a new born baby. It wasn't mine - I was carrying it for the father, who was walking with me. We were in downtown Whitehorse and we had to get to a meeting at Yukon Energy at the dam site. We decided to walk. However the more we walked, the more we became disoriented. We found ourselves travelling on waterways much like what is found in Venice. Then I walked through a store and as I came out the back door, we were looking at farmland, a church, and other surroundings I had never seen before. I knew we had very likely missed our meeting by now, but nonetheless we kept going.

Finally I asked someone for directions. They pointed us back through the store we'd just come out of. As we walked past the store keeper, he looked up and I realized inuitively that he was a spiritual leader of some kind. He had a large amulet on his counter made of bone. The baby, who had been sleeping all this time, suddenly woke up and looked at him, and a sort of unspoken understanding passed between the two of them. Just holding that baby had been a spiritual experience, and seeing what had transpired between infant and shop keeper, I knew something of significance was going on here, although I didn't know what it was.

This dream likely came about because last night at Iris' Nutcracker dress rehearsal, I had a chance to hold a 3 week old baby. It was tiny, having been born five weeks early. What a lovely feeling to have this wee one in my arms (although I'm happy that the baby phase in my own life is long past). When it was time for the family with the baby to leave, I asked them if I could keep the little one. The six-year old sister became very upset, thinking I was serious. I had to quickly assure her I would never take her baby sister from her.
