Back on the road today.  I didn't have to wait for the alarm at home to go off this morning.  My son fell out of his semi-bunk bed at 2:30 AM.  Usually I sleep through just about everything.  This time, I "heard" the crash, a yelping cry of confusion, pain, and tears, and my wife getting out-of-bed in sheer horror (she wakes up at the sound of a pin-drop) with a very loud inhalation sound.  Turns out he was no worse for the wear other than being scared out of his wits (his parents were scared as well -- it's a helpless feeling realizing that your son could have landed on his head and died!)  Later on the road, Heidi said his left knee hit the ground first and smashed whatever plastic box that was in the flight plan.  He had bruise and gash--a souvenir I'm sure he'll show his buddies at school).

There's one type of weather that I do not care for--cold, windy, rainy weather.  It was all three this morning.  By the time I hooked up to an empty trailer in the drop lot where I park the truck when I'm home, I was pretty well soaked and chilled.  No matter, another 4-hours down the road and everything was dry as a bone again.  Finally ran into some sunshine over in western WI as I headed over to Minneapolis.  Dropped my trailer at my destination and then picked up another trailer nearby and relayed that into our Minneapolis drop yard.  Then I picked up another trailer for tomorrow's delivery in Iowa.  Ran out of hours so I settled down for the night in the drop yard.  While writing this, I watched other drivers come and go into the yard as well as watching truck traffic from the freeway viaduct up above me from where I parked.

Well, the election is over and am so grateful that George W. Bush has earned another 4-years.  I hope to write a few comments about the political landscape as I see it over the next few days.  Stay tuned.
