Thursday, November 25th (Thanksgiving) It was kind of weird driving today as most everyone I encountered today was most likely going to and fro for family Thanksgiving gatherings. Truck traffic was down, but I was surprised by how many of us were out and about (maybe it was just me but I did see more Canadian semi's today than I have on other days).
Got chilly last night--down to 16 degrees (FA). As I got closer to Chicago, snow was on the ground! The roads were fine but they did get hit with a storm yesterday and night.
I missed a call from my family earlier in the morning. The kids wished me a happy Thanksgiving on the voice recording. Good stuff! I stopped off at Arby's and had a beef and cheddar--the closest thing to turkey I'll get to today.
Arriving at Gary, IN, I washed the truck, picked up my next load and then discovered that some of the trailer tires needed replacing. I also had the shop fix an electrical problem that I started having recently. When I turned the headlights on, the marker lights went off both on the cab and trailer. When I turned just the marker lights on, all the marker lights turned on properly (I had to turn the flashers on while driving a few nights back as I had no tail lights!)
While there, a guy came down with a very bad migraine headache. A group of us came to his help and we ended up calling the paramedics and they took him to a nearby hospital. One guy (from Rhinelander) and I started talking as we waited for the paramedics to arrive. Then a driving team (from the UP--Upper Peninsula) joined in and soon others drifted in and out. We talked about Newfoundland (the Canadian Province and the breed), London, Australia, blood clots, a nature book (to be published by one of the drivers), and many more assorted items. It was neat for us drivers to come together on Thanksgiving and share our lives with one another.
