On Friday, I began my evening commute a little later than normal, on
account of getting to the office late and having to do a bit of late
work at the office. I had thought, though, that getting on the
road later on a Friday evening would not have been that bad. Oh,
how I was sorely mistaken.
Route 1 leaving College Park was miserable, so I was forced to grab the
Capitol Beltway to avoid that mess. It got worse as I approached
I-95. Listening to the traffic told me of the problem: a sinkhole that closed a part of the Baltimore-Washington Parkway.
Since everyone was avoiding the Parkway, everyone was trying to use
Rt.1 or I-95. My usual commute became a nightmare, with my
average speed from College Park to the exit for I-895 being about 25-30
miles per hour. It took me a 105 minutes (1 hour, 45 minutes) to
get home. I was running late for an evening of music and dinner
with my Better Half.
The evening plan was music and dinner at Ze Mean Bean Cafe with this guy
and his peoples. The music was good--Caleb Stine and his small
band actually had some nice covers of Johnny Cash. The food was
delicious, and the bottle of wine a nice complement to the
dinner. There was a tasty late night Boh to finish the evening at
Red Star.
Saturday afternoon was an unexpected game of baseball (more on that
later), followed by a quiet evening with the Better Half and and
unexpectedly tipsy friend. We helped him meet his quest to join
the Imperial Pint Club at my Irish haunt.
In the future, it is best not to mix Car Bombs with pints of
Guinness. The best part of the evening was placing him in the bed
of his truck as his girlfriend picked his drunk-ass up from the
bar. Ha.
Sunday was, by far, the best day of the weekend. it was lazy, but
good. Lunch at a local pub, followed by the Fantastic Four.
Cheesy, but I was entertained. Michael Chiklis,
a fellow BU alum, was pretty good. The afternoon and evening were
just great. A light dinner and enjoyment of the Family Guy. (Best
scene from last night, when they were all vomiting from drinking the
syrup of ipecac.)
As someone commented last night, great weekend, just seems a bit too short.
