I hinted about an announcement of sorts both today and just over one week ago.
My resignation will be officially handed in tomorrow, but the news is
unofficially official. I will be ending my time at the University
of Maryland in just four weeks time.
I have been presented with an opportunity that is truly one I cannot
turn down. I have accepted the offer of Directory of Technology
Risk Management at SB & Company, LLC.
The title sounds a bit more important that what the position will
initially entail, but I will "grow" into the title.
I must admit that I am excited and nervous about this
opportunity. It is my first venture into the private sector, as I
have worked in various capacities at the University since my time at
the School of Public Policy.
Even though my job at the University was sometimes challenging, I will
miss both the people and experiences. I have met a lot of
wonderful people who I am fortunate enough to call my colleagues, and I
am even luckier to count some of them as my friends.
Nonetheless, I am looking forward to my new job and the new challenges
that will come with it. The people there have all been quite
personable. I look forward to working with them and doing my part
in contributing to the growth of the firm.

I returned from Provo, Utah, on Saturday afternoon, and it was nice to
come home. So, as I catch up this morning, just a smattering of
my thoughts before the day gets underway.
- The Paper Moon Diner has to single-handedly be the worst brunch experience I have ever had in Charm City. Fool
and I went with a couple of out-of-towners, and we had a nice hour-long
wait for our food. My omelette arrived cold, and the service
decided to sort of ignore us as everyone around us was tended to with
food and drink. No one came by to explain to us the delay in our
food, offer us drinks, or merely check in on us. The food was
decent, but the poor service blighted the whole experience. I
completely understand if you are "slammed," but that is no excuse for
forgetting that we existed. The manager at least made up for it
by picking up our tab. Nonetheless, this establishment is
permanently removed from my rather extensive list of brunch
locations. Paper Moon Diner: CRAP!
- Damn the Orioles! Please get rid of Sir Fatty McFatFat, and
please start hitting the ball again. This weekend and last week
was embarrassing, and I am hanging my head in shame. Swept by the
Devil Rays?!?!? Pathetic.
- Apparently, my luck with jury duty in Baltimore continues.
I received a summons, but I forgot to check in last night to see if I
would be called. Since the city calls about 8 trillion potential
jurors, the chance I would be part of the pool was quite high. I,
of course, forgot until my calendar at the office blared at me. A
quick call to the Jury Office and completing my summons form will put
me back in the pool. Stupid absent-minded me!
I am still annoyed by the fact that I have been summoned three times
for jury duty since moving back to this city in 1999. I have
known people who have lived here as long as I have, and they have yet
to be summoned. I do not object to the process, but I do find my
luck to be somewhat perverse.
- There will be a separate post as I shill for the upcoming Happy Hour later today. In short, come and enjoy watching blogger geeks drink multiple adult beverages, while talking smack.
- Some interesting news coming later, so watch this space.
