It was really nice to see the Birds take 3 out of 4 games against the
Red Sox. Being there--with some Sox fans who I call friends--was
annoying though. I used to think that Yankees fans are annoying,
but Sox fans are running a close second. Their incessant "Let's
Go Red Sox" chants, all of their stupid World Series shirts, and their
incredibly bad skin color is just annoying on a variety of level.
Add to the fact that most of them are even more smug given the Patriots
won the Super Bowl, and the annoyance factor rises exponentially.
Even worse, the profound New England press was suddenly declaring the
race for the Sox decisively, as witnessed by this piece by Dan Shaughnessy of the Boston Globe.
Honestly, I thought like most people and was worried about the
O's. Their pitching staff was in shambles, the hitting wasn't as
good as it was, and my favorite Ex-Cub was getting the new name of Rally Killer. I was looking at this series before the All-Star break, mainly looking for the O's to split the series.
Lopez and Chen looked pretty good, and the old man Palmeiro is hitting
the ball pretty good on his march to 3,000 hits. Matos had some
great defensive plays--especially when I got to see him rob David Ortiz
of a home run on Saturday. Finally, who else by Miguel Tejada
hits .500 in a home series against the Sox, missing hitting for the
cycle by a home run.
As the Sun's own Peter Schmuck put it in Monday's edition, the AL East race is far from over.
The Orioles just served notice they are not going away without a
fight. And, it gets better after the All Star Break, with the
return of Erik Bedard and Javy Lopez to the rotation and lineup,
respectively. With that, I say to the Sox fans, BRING IT!!!!
