things that are cool (link dump) Here's a dump of things that I've come across that I think are cool or important. Many of you already know about most of these, but I also know that there are some people who read this blog who do not digest whole corners of the internet like I tend to: The Accordion Guy: bOingbOing originally turned me on to this guy, and now I'm a regular reader. Joey is a resident of Toronto, plays the accordion, and codes with mad skillz (That will be my last attempt at "elite speech"). And he writes hilariously. You must read about New Girl and his Worst Date Ever series. Makes you want to learn to play the Accordion and move to Toronto. And never date a waitress. The MIT Open Courseware Project: To use an overused cliché, this is what the Web is all about, folks. MIT is making all of their courseware available on the web, for free. Wow. Textfiles.com: I was a big BBS user in the mid to late 80's. Ask my mom about the phone bill. This guy has collected as much of the old BBS material as he could, and made it all available over the web. Really cool stuff. He also provided a bittorrent link so that people could grab a complete copy of his files and mirror them elsewhere. Wow. Lots of good stuff there. Some dangerous, some offensive, but pretty much all interesting. Project Gutenberg: Yes, it's very old news (it started in the early 70's), but if you liked Textfiles.com, you should probably also check out (or go back to) Project Gutenberg. If you haven't seen it lately, check it out now. It's HUGE. Gizmodo: A gadgets weblog. Bad to read if you are a gadget freak with a budget. Recomendo: a neat collection of recommended items of all sorts, from trips to toys. Probably the latest inheritor of the subtitle to the Whole Earth Catalog: "A source for tools." Hiptop.com: the gathering place for Hiptop/Sidekick freaks. Much of the chatter is just chatter, but this is also a good place for seeing which way the wind blows in the Sidekick community. Daily Python-URL: I've already got these guys linked on the sidebar, but they've recently been pointing out some really interesting stuff (and I'm not just saying that because the recently gave me a link).
Enough for now. |
