Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

sometimes you just don't expect

Every once in a while, I write something that catches the attention of other people, and it always startles me a little bit when it happens. Sometimes the focus of attention is something that I took some time to write (like the python time bomb mini-essay), sometimes it's something that I just said off the cuff (the itertools entry).

And sometimes, because writing a blog a times seems to be like working without a net, you write something that seems a little shrieky and overreacting, like yesterday's bit about Zope. I was actually quite surprised when someone commented on it.

Just when you think that no one pays attention, someone pops up and proves you wrong.

Oh well. I wrote that bit about Zope because of a posting on ZopeZen about the current state of the Zope community. I think the posting by hathawsh is probably the best summation of what's really happening. I also agree that Zope Corp needs to make money to survive.

This is a really good example of the difference between being on the inside and being on the outside -- the Zope guys on the inside know (mostly) what's going on, and they do their job, day after day, as well they should. But those of us on the outside don't hear as much, and our overactive imaginations end up filling in the gaps. Or at least that's what I do. The result is that I end up posting things like I did yesterday.

Oh well. That's life without a net.
