code in the database

Every time I have an idea for something, it seems that it's already being worked on somewhere.

Which is cool, because the more stuff is done elsewhere, the easier it is to implement the larger manifestation of my ideas. I love being able to take pieces of code and stitch them together to create large systems.

Yeah, I'm being a little cagey about my project. I don't want to spill the beans until there are some beans to spill and code to play with.

west wing rant

Okay, the new Aaron Sorkin-less West Wing sucks, and last night's episode, coupled with the preview for next week proved it.

The whole Leo / CJ fracas was completely artificial and handled badly. Leo would never have been so hands on, and they never would have put CJ in a position where the only choice she had was to make her and the White House look very very bad.

President Bartlet is being portrayed as an ineffective crank, and while it could be argued that after what the First Family went through that it was appropriate, I think that the whole kidnapping resolution was handled badly and with a dash too much deus ex machina.

Bartlet would not have yelled at Amy, he would have gotten Josh to try to hire her away. I also don't think Amy would have been oblivious to the effect that the puff piece on Josh would have had.

And the preview? The president goes AWOL? Give me a break.

I used to enjoy the West Wing because it was the only show out there that seemed unafraid to make me work to keep up. Sometimes the plot developments were predictable, but most of the time they were challenging and cool. So what if it wasn't reality. I get reality every day, I want West Wing to make me tune out reality and live in a different world. But now, the West Wing is no different from any of the serial dramas that populate the airwaves. Third Watch. ER. Yadda yadda yadda. Those are good shows, but do we really need another?

I miss the spark.

hey, I had a scoop!

My first scoop. Check out this Seattle Times article.

I'd like to point out that I had this story last Friday.

Not a big deal, but still fun.

update: the Seattle P-I has the story now as well.
