LAS VEGAS, NV, April 9, 2002 - The National Association of Broadcasters has named the ten winners of the NAB Crystal Radio Award competition. Established in 1987, the NAB Crystal Radio Award recognizes radio stations' efforts to improve the quality of life in their surrounding communities. The stations listed above were selected from a pool of 50 finalists.
"The stations we honor today go well above the call of duty in serving their individual communities," said NAB President & CEO Edward O. Fritts. "NAB salutes these ten broadcasters for their commitment to localism and exemplary public service."
The awards were presented during the Radio Luncheon, sponsored by ASCAP, at NAB's annual spring convention. Keith Reinhard, DDB Worldwide Communications Group, Inc., gave the keynote address.
The luncheon also featured the induction of radio personality and producer, Dick Orkin (of Chickenman fame) from "The Famous Radio Ranch", into the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame. In a short conversation with Dick, he told me they're releasing a set of every one of the Chickenman episode ever done on-air for the 2002 holidays. If you want to get in line for the one of these CD's, email him here. For more about Dick's start in radio read this.
