bcF -- email feature request

Some mailing lists prepend each Subject line with the mailing list name, in brackets. I'd like to have email filters which include an action to perform a simple, "sed"-like transformation on certain of the headers. Or even a full Unix-like text filter to fix up a few things. Worst example: the email notifications associated with the Radio UserLand discussion pages. Not only does Yahoo add its own "[radio-userland]" modification, but the Radio discussion group software also adds a "New message:" to that, and it fails to preserve the "From" information.

Maybe fixing all of that is too tricky for a GUI-based email client. I guess I'll finally have to give in and install X-on-X or something like that, so I can try out a recent version of emacs and see how well its mlisp email clients work with multiple mailboxes, automatic filtering, etc. Or maybe procmail could probably do it. Hmm, haven't used that since 8+ years ago.
