I made the original one when I was ten. At some point, he turned around: the current ones always look to the right. The biggest and second-longest-lived one was about six feet in diameter (an arm's length radius), and was done in pencil on cement, on one of the stairwell walls of a parking structure near Boelter Hall (the Engineering building) at UCLA. I think I did it in about 1972 or so. It lasted about 10 years -- at one point all of the other stairwells got painted over but they spared that one.
I or one of my brothers (Michael?) even made a 3-D Peter Potatoe once, using a tennis ball to start with. Looked weird because he only had one eye, and the legs were right down the middle, one directly in front of the other.
