Denver November 2004 Election
The U.S. Supreme court will rule this week whether or not they will take on the re-districting case from Colorado, according to the Cortez Journal. From the article, "State Senate President John Andrews, R-Centennial, said he expects a favorable ruling Monday on a Republican challenge that says the Colorado Supreme Court erred when it threw out a GOP-drawn map...The high court's decision will be too late for this year's elections in Colorado, which will be held under a map drawn by a Denver judge after lawmakers failed to come up with boundaries in time for the November 2002 election...The Colorado Supreme Court upheld the judge's map, saying the state Constitution only allows redistricting work to be done between the decennial census and the ensuing general election...Attorney General Ken Salazar, a Democrat, argued that the state court ruling was not a question of courts usurping the power of the Legislature, but a question of whether a state may restrict congressional redistricting to once per decade. He also said a ruling in favor of the Republicans would create political chaos."
