2004 Presidential Election

Taegan Goddard: "Sen. John Kerry 'holds a slim 3-percentage point lead' in Minnesota over President Bush, according to a new St. Paul Pioneer Press poll. The poll shows 44% of Minnesota voters would vote for Kerry, while 41% favor Bush. Ralph Nader gets just 2%, and 13% are still undecided."

al.com: "A recent statewide poll by Montgomery-based Capital Survey Research showed Kerry trailing Bush 37 percent to 56 percent, with 8 percent undecided."

Blogs for Bush interprets some recent polling numbers as being in favor of the President's re-election.

GeorgeWBush.com: "In the evening, the President will participate in a Victory 2004 Reception in Denver, Colorado." The Rocky Mountain Progressive Network will be out welcoming the President with a bit of a protest.

Update: Here's a story on the President's two day trip to Colorado from the Denver Post [June 1, 2004, "Bush arrives for fundraiser, Academy speech"]. From the article, "First, however, the president is scheduled to meet with James Dobson, head of the conservative Christian group Focus on the Family. Dobson is a leading supporter of a proposed constitutional amendment that would bar legal recognition of same-sex marriages. The group also supports the president's faith-based initiative, a plan to allow religious organizations to compete for federal social services contracts. The proposal is popular with religious groups and Bush is pushing it ahead of the fall elections." Here's the link to Focus on the Family.

Colorado Water

Steamboat Springs is seeking approval to get guaranteed flows in the Yampa river for a planned whitewater park, according to the Denver Post [June 1, 2004, "Towns clash over river uses"]. From the article, "The town recently constructed a pair of popular play holes in the Yampa River where boaters can roll, twist and surf when flows are right, but just how much water these man-made cascades need is at issue. The Steamboat Springs City Council applied for a recreational diversion on Dec. 26, 2003. Several dozen residents aired their views at a hearing Wednesday of the Colorado Water Conservation Board at the Steamboat Grand Hotel."
