Colorado Water
Aurora has agreed to store more water in Homestake reservoir to help with low flows in the Eagle River, according to the Denver Post [June 18, 2004, "Aurora wraps up water deal"]. From the article, "The Eagle River will flourish in the summer and fall, and the city of Aurora will improve its chances of tapping more water from the basin under an agreement with Vail Valley water users signed Thursday. Aurora will store an extra 163 million gallons in Homestake Reservoir south of Minturn during the spring snowmelt. When the flow lags, as it often does, water managers will release water from the reservoir to pump up the river's volume as it flows through the Vail Valley, officials said. Much of its scenic trek to the Colorado River runs parallel to Interstate 70. The deal won't cost Aurora or its ratepayers a dime or a drop of water, but it will help the environment and relationships, said Mayor Ed Tauer."
