2004 Presidential Election
Coloradans braved the rainy weather to hear Senator John Kerry speak yesterday in Denver, according to the Denver Post [June 22, 2004, "Kerry makes a splash"]. From the article, "In his first campaign visit to Denver, Kerry called for renewed stem-cell research, saying more than 100 million Americans have illnesses or injuries that might be treated with stem-cell therapy. He said that as president, he would increase funding for federal agencies 'that promote critical research' and stop interference with the content of scientific reports...In their endorsement letter earlier Monday, 48 Nobel laureates accused the Bush administration of impeding medical advances by restricting stem-cell research, ignoring a scientific consensus on global warming and turning away critical scientific talent with inappropriate immigration practices. The Bush administration, which has restricted stem-cell research, disputed those claims and said it has increased funding for science." Here's a link to the text of Senator Kerry's speech and the link to a .pdf.
